Memphis, USA - 18 May 2006 to 20 May 2006
Looking for a good barbeque as the summer months approach?
Well you're bound to find something to please your palette in Memphis from May 18th to 21st, as the world championships of barbeque cooking take place.
Nicknamed the "superbowl of swine", this event hosts the best in barbeque and sees a competition to find the most impressive and delicious open-fire roast in the world.
And with $60,000 up for grabs for the winner, it is little wonder that so many people turn up to take part in the competition, which is held in Memphis' Tom Lee Park and accompanied by various entertainment on the main stage.
So for those looking for a cheap, top-quality meal while in Memphis, there can be few places better to go than the park during the three-day event.
However, anyone looking to make a late entry to the competition will be disappointed – the deadline for applications closed back in February. But with up to 90,000 visitors arriving in the park for this event every year and barbeques dolled-up in fancy dress costumes, this is a remarkable event to see.
